Short bio

Konversations Kill is Vancouver songwriting duo Scott Burton and Stephen Selski. Old friends and veteran Canadian musicians, they sat down with two acoustic guitars and wrote more than fifty songs. Their self-titled debut, produced by Jeff Dawson (Daniel Powter), arrived July 31, 2024: acoustic-driven alt-rock with big, singalong hooks.

Long bio

Konversations Kill is Stephen Selski and Scott Burton, two veteran Canadian musicians and old friends who have played together in a series of projects over the years. When they reunited as an acoustic duo four years ago, the songs came fast. More than fifty of them.

They shared the demos with friends and family, and the response pushed them into the studio with producer Jeff Dawson (Jeff Dawson Productions), known for his work with Daniel Powter and the Grammy-nominated hit single “Bad Day”, with State of Shock and the certified platinum hit “Money Honey” and much more. Recorded and mixed at the Den Studios, Vancouver, BC and mastered by Ryan Dahle (Age of Electric, Limblifter, ryandahle.com) at his Mayne Island studios, the result is the band's self-titled debut album, released worldwide on July 31, 2024, after each of its nine songs came out as a single over the six weeks before.

The sound of their debut album sits between heavy and pop: acoustic guitars up front, lush harmonies, and synths, strings and a rolling rhythm section underneath. The Static Dive heard echoes of Violent Femmes and Talking Heads, the classic alternative of the 80s and 90s with a modern indie finish. Rock Era Magazine called the vocals “anthemic and arena-worthy.”

In 2026, the band has taken the momentum of the first album and used it to push the sound forward, expanding from the intimacy of the original acoustic duo into something bigger, louder and more unapologetically rock. The soon-to-be-released second album sees Konversations Kill embracing the full-band experience, turning up the volume and bringing a heavier, more dynamic sonic punch to the songs. What started with two friends, acoustic guitars and a flood of songs has now evolved into a full-blown rock sound. The second album, Are we Insane, to be released soon.
